Design Tools

For designing my websites I use:

  • Pen and paper - Sometimes it's useful just to sketch if you have an idea or if your talking to your client
  • Illustrator CS4 - Great to create logos, branding or any vector suff (you can safe straight to SVG with Illustrator)
  • Photoshop CS4 - Perfect for making OK photos into great photos
  • Fireworks CS4 - This is the place to do the design, it is perfect for web design
  • Dreamwever CS4 - The place to build the design. Using the code view for creating the theme and the design view just to check it all looks fine. The CSS is a little basic but when you have uploading, test site, check in/out and a ton of other options when you start using it you wont want to go back to anything else.
  • Notepad - Never copy and paste straight from Word or the web, always Paste into notepad then cut and paste back out.
  • Google Chrome - At the moment my favourite browser, but always have the other browsers installed for testing IE, Firefox, Opera, Safari, IE Test

I use a PC for all this lot so if you use an Apple PC or Linux box (or something else) it would be great to know what you use.
